It was won by Stefano Garzelli, who led the all-Italian podium over countrymen Francesco Casagrande and Gilberto Simoni.
Russian Dmitri Konyshev won the Maglia ciclamino (points classification); Francesco Casagrande captured the Maglia verde as the King of the Mountains winner.
